The small town of Paradise is nestled In the pine covered foothills of California’s northern Sierra Nevada mountain range.  With a population of 26,000 people, its rustic and relaxed persona invites busy urbanites to visit, finding that they tend to stay.

In 2001, a developer also found Paradise, bought 59 acres at the “Gateway to town” and proceeded to make application for a huge mall that would have a Wal-Mart as its anchor store. The Save Our Gateway committee was formed to fight what many saw as a disastrous plan for our foothill community.

Since 2001, the Skyway Plaza project has divided our community between those who don’t want development at the Gateway and others who see it as a prime location for a large-scale retail development.  One option protects our Gateway vistas and small town feel while the other would generate tax revenue for our Town’s public services.  In the past, both opponents and supporters of the Skyway Plaza Project have gotten so caught up in the “either-or” that we’ve forgotten to ask, “How we can have both?”

Today, Save Our Gateway is dedicated to engaging Paradise residents in meaningful dialog about what type of development our community wants and needs at our gateway.

Please join us in finding a development alternative that protects our irreplaceable community character while ensuring we have sufficient tax revenue to support our public services.

We are currently running small meetings throughout Paradise to collect feedback.  If you would like to host a meeting at your house and invite 10-15 friends and neighbors to participate, please contact macvolt@juno.com.
